Grow a Garden Trading Etiquette: Discord Servers and Community Rules
Trading in Grow a Garden is not just about knowing values — it is also about knowing how to behave. Good etiquette builds your reputation, leads to better trade offers, and makes the entire community a more enjoyable place. Poor etiquette gets you ignored, kicked from servers, and blacklisted by other traders. Here is how to do it right.
Before You Trade
Know Your Values
Do not enter a trade negotiation without knowing approximately what your items and their items are worth. Use a value calculator before making or responding to offers. Showing up unprepared wastes everyone's time and makes you look inexperienced — and inexperienced traders are prime targets for scammers.
Read the Server Rules
Every Discord trading server has its own rules about how trades should be conducted, what channels to use, and what behavior is expected. Read the rules channel before you post anything. Getting warned or banned from a trading server cuts you off from potentially hundreds of trade opportunities.
During Negotiation
Be Clear About What You Want
When posting a trade offer, be specific. Instead of "trading pets, make offers," say "trading Butterfly (weight 1.5, Legendary) for Divine pet or multiple Legendaries." Clear offers get clear responses. Vague offers get ignored or attract lowball attempts.
Do Not Lowball
Offering a Common Dog for a Kitsune is not negotiation — it is insulting. Lowball offers waste both parties' time and damage your reputation. If you want to negotiate, offer something in the same general value range and discuss the difference. A fair starting offer shows you respect the other trader's time and items.
Do Not Spam
Posting your trade offer every five minutes in every channel is spam and will get you muted or banned. Most servers have cooldown rules (typically 30 minutes to 2 hours between posting the same trade). If your trade is not getting responses, adjust your offer instead of reposting it.
Accept "No" Gracefully
If someone declines your trade offer, say "okay, thanks anyway" and move on. Do not argue, do not insist, and do not send angry DMs. The other trader has the right to decline for any reason — maybe they do not like the item, maybe they are looking for something specific, maybe they just changed their mind. Pushing after a "no" is the fastest way to get blocked and reported.
After a Trade
Leave Feedback if Applicable
Some Discord servers have reputation or feedback systems. If you had a positive experience, leave a good review for the other trader. It helps them build their reputation and encourages good behavior across the community. If you had a negative experience (scam attempt, rude behavior), report it to moderators with evidence rather than posting public callouts.
Do Not Gloat
If you got a great deal — a clear win — do not go around bragging about it. This makes the other trader feel bad, and it can damage your reputation as someone who takes advantage of less experienced players. Win quietly and focus on building fair, long-term trading relationships.
Community Server Guidelines
Most Grow a Garden trading Discords operate under similar norms:
- Use the correct channels: Trading offers go in trading channels, general chat in general channels. Do not cross-post.
- No DMs without permission: Do not DM other server members about trades unless they have explicitly said DMs are welcome. Unsolicited DMs are a common spam tactic.
- Respect middlemen: If a server provides trusted middleman services for high-value trades, use them. They exist to protect both parties.
- No drama: If you have a dispute with another trader, take it to DMs or report it to moderators. Do not start arguments in public channels.
- Be patient: Not everyone is online at the same time or responds instantly. Give people reasonable time to reply before moving on.
Building Long-Term Trust
The best traders in Grow a Garden are not the ones who win every trade — they are the ones other players want to trade with again. Be fair, be patient, be honest about your items' values and conditions, and treat every trader with respect. Over time, this reputation will bring you better trade offers than any value calculator ever could. The community is small enough that word gets around — both good and bad.
